DULWICH

Kitchen Garden

BRIEF

We were asked to produce a design for an unused rear section of our clients garden that was previously used for storage and largely derelict. The remaining sections of the garden had been well laid out and planted by the previous owners however as keen foodies there was no defined area for cooking or dining with friends in a relaxed atmosphere. As well as a substantial outdoor kitchen we had to include storage and a dog shower in the space so that it was still a practical area.

SOLUTION

Two main areas were developed within the design, a dining area with adjacent kitchen and a cosy fire pit area with a bespoke circular bench. The existing garden included established tall pleached trees so we developed a contemporary design for a pergola in natural oak to give grounding to the design and visually work down the height whilst giving privacy and seclusion. Storage comes in the form of a robust timber shed disguised with trellis and climbing plants with adjoining dog and boot wash shower cleverly tucked away.

OUTCOME

This beautiful space has unlocked so much potential from a previously unused space. Two large kamado BBQ’s, Pizza oven, Fridge and work station are neatly tucked to the side of the garden making the best use of space whilst hiding the appliances from the view from the house. Scented herbs and flowers fill the space and the element of surprise as you enter this ‘secret garden’ adds to the delight of visitors who are invited to enjoy long summer lunches and cocktails by the fire pit.
