JOHN LEWIS CHRISTMAS

BRIEF

John Lewis are famed for their Christmas adverts and we were honoured to be asked to devise a winter garden to host the launch of the Christmas campaign and provide an experience that visitors to the Oxford Street Store could enjoy for themselves. The garden brief was to create an immersive experience that would look good for eight weeks, with particular attention to lighting as the space would be open throughout Christmas shopping periods. Accommodation needed to be provided for catering and refreshments, retail and places for customers to sit and keep warm.

SOLUTION

Our design created a journey through the space that led customers through a pine forest, interspersed with feature elements from the campaign. Winter lodges were built to create cosy hideaways for dinner and drinks and outdoor benches provided additional seating for peak weekend visitor numbers. The space was accessorised with winter twigs, stems, snow and winter flowering plants.

OUTCOME

As well as additional space for the store to utilise, the winter garden gave customers a range of experiences from interactive demonstrations, through to tired family members being able to get away from Christmas shopping for a well-deserved break. At its peak, the garden had a footfall of over 3000 customers a day
