For the 2023 RHS Chelsea Flower Show, we once again partnered with Hamptons to create a garden redolent with the look, feel, and smell of sunny Mediterranean landscapes; a tranquil place where the warm textures of the architecture merge into nature. The concept was to create a garden showcasing a series of spaces but with a focus on an outdoor kitchen and alfresco dining space, perfect to relax, enjoy some cooking and entertain family and friends
The garden features an intimate and contemporary outdoor living space that encourages sustainable planting and living. The design promotes the ever-important connection to nature whilst providing the perfect room to entertain. Connection is a central theme of the garden: a large table where family and friends gather to sharefood and each other’s company is a fundamental element of the Italian lifestyle. The planting is bursting with soft colours and the soothing perfume of aromatic herbs with structure and stability provided by a selection of mature fruit trees and shrubs.
The garden design has created a realistic and beautiful space with sustainably conscious materials. A private space with two lounge‘Ethimo’armchairs has striking views down the architectural water feature which rises and runs on rainwater. The water feature can also be used as a water reservoir for garden irrigation during the wet months of the year. The planting includes a huge selection of Mediterranean plants, most of which are hardy in the South England and drought-tolerant, showcasing different styles of planting including densely planted ornamental borders, dotted with clouds of sub-shrubs typical of the Macchia,a gravel garden with sculptural succulents and productive borders rich with edibles, foraging herbs and roots.
