BRIEF

Set on the River Lee, this beautiful property is surrounded by water on 3 sides and has a generous sized garden that wraps all the way around. Our client asked us to produce a scheme that borrows from the landscape and provides different zones and rooms around the property, including a kitchen garden, flower garden, lawns and terrace.

SOLUTION

The garden is set in a stunning position, however, the site is very angular and slims disproportionately in some areas. The design is based around a central circular lawn that is surrounded by densely planted borders. In one direction an arch and winding path leads you to the kitchen garden and off to a waterside jetty, through a reclaimed clay brick path. In the opposite direction, another arch leads you to a circular terrace, enclosed by tall grasses and airy flowering perennial plants. This forms the main dining area in the garden adjacent to the kitchen. Following the path around the property you arrive at a comfortable seating area of outdoor sofas, set on a sandstone terrace overlooking an expanse of calm water.

OUTCOME

The garden has a sense of seclusion whilst still making the most of waterside vistas. The planting is densely arranged to provide an abundance of summer colour, with stems and seedheads adding structure in the winter. The various garden areas have created a sense of adventure and surprise throughout the garden and provide lots of flexible seating areas, from sun loungers to a dining area. The open lawn creates a sense of space and allows the planting to be appreciated in its different forms, as the light and aspect of the garden change.
