TEDDINGTON TERRACE

Childs Play

BRIEF

We were absolutely inspired when we entered our clients typical terraced house just off Teddington’s buzzing and ever evolving high street. You are immediately drawn to the high quality finish and attention to detail that Sarah and her architect have brought to this cosy home. The contemporary updates to the layout are detailed immaculately. Walk further and the dream kitchen by Devol stands magnificently as a cool yet completely at home socialising/family space before Crittall doors lead you into the garden. We feel inspired by the client, the interior and now we know exactly the brief that we have to fulfil in the the garden. A total extension of the brilliant home, grown up and with a relaxed enough and flexible play space for the kids to play and run around. Storage of logs for the enviable log burner, space to grow herbs, mud kitchen for natural play and plenty of durable seating with a look to match the dark yet completely timeless hues of the kitchen that allow light to create atmosphere all day long.

SOLUTION

This garden had been clad in horizontal board fencing previous to our design starting which looked great and just needed a refresh with paint to suit the scheme. Our client opted for hand made clay bricks in an ‘Ebony’ finish that subtly introduced the interior ‘Herringbone’ flooring pattern to the garden. A change in level is subtly stepped with the brick changing direction and the step reaches across the whole width of the garden to visually extend the boundaries and allow for a generous terrace with space for occasional seating, herb planters and a generous and attractive corten steel log storage system.

OUTCOME

This small garden now has three clearly defined areas and a distinctive style that blends seamlessly with the beautiful finish of the interior. A good sized lawn offers a play space for a growing family and cleverly designed play house with pull out sand pit is an attractive feature set amongst evergreen and herbaceous planting. Practical elements such as storage have been thoughtfully designed and implemented to become attractive features.
